Browser-Based Drag and Drop Tuning

With Drag-and-Drop Tuning, you can now tune control loops, even when you don't have the best bump test data. Using the PlantTriage browser, you can quickly fit a model to your real-world process data.

With the browser version, you have an unlimited number of users. So all qualified people in your plant can make use of these tuning tools.

This means you can develop process models and tune from just about any test data. You can use traditional step data, setpoint changes, pulse tests, or even non-steady-state (NSS) process data, from a loop with oscillation.

With Action Tickets, Follow-Up can be Easily Managed

Assign Follow-Up Items

PlantTriage Action Tickets enable you to assign and track corrective actions on loops that PlantTriage has identified as needing attention. Action Tickets are assigned to individuals with due date, priority and comments. When the individual has examined the problem, they can assign the action to others, make further comments or set the action as done.

Without Ever Leaving PlantTriage

You can manage all the follow-up work directly from the PlantTriage web browser interface. No additional logins are needed, no additional applications. Just click on the item needing repair, describe the issue, and assign it.

Single-Bump Cascade Tuning

You can now tune an entire cascade system using a single bump. Previously tuning a cascade was a two step process: tune the secondary loop, then tune the primary loop with the secondary loop in auto and the cascade closed.

With the new Cascade Tuning mechanism, you only have to bump the secondary loop. The secondary loop can be either in auto or manual and the cascade does not have to be closed. PlantTriage automatically models the primary process. This is the effect the secondary loop measurement has on the primary loop measurement. It uses the primary process model to recommend primary controller tuning.

PlantTriage Assessor Improvements

Faster Assessments

If your PlantTriage server has more than two processors, PlantTriage Assessor now makes use of the extra processors. This means there is more CPU time available for other important tasks such as running the PlantTriage browser interface.

Track Server Performance

Assessor loading is now recorded and a new browser page has been provided so that you can track system performance over time.

More Diagnostics

In every release of PlantTriage, we add more diagnostic capability. The Expert System in PlantTriage was built from decades of practical, real-world experience. In version 11, we have refined existing diagnostics, and added new ones, such as detection of "bang-bang" controls. A bang-bang controller can be dangerous because the controller is unstable, and the final control element may be damaged during normal operation.

Improved Tuning Suggestions

Like a very experienced control engineer, PlantTriage will suggest that you use PI or PID tuning, depending on the situation.

Process Interaction Map Improvements

Long-Term Interaction Analysis

In some plants, thermal lags can create situations where interactions make take many days to be fully seen. In version 11, the Process Interaction Map lets you find interaction leads and lags of up to 2 weeks.

How Long Will it Take?

Interaction Maps are the end-result of millions of calculations. In extreme cases, with thousands of loops under investigation, it may take several minutes to get an answer. A progress bar now updates as the Process Interaction Map is calculating. The user can cancel the Process Interaction Map calculation at any time.

Subscribe to Event Log

Now you can have the PlantTriage Event Log delivered to your inbox, in the same way as other PlantTriage tables and trends.

Dashboards Can Now Show Engineering Notes

There is a new object that can be added to any Dashboard shows Loop Engineering Notes.

Improvements to PlantTriage Watchdog

The PlantTriage Watchdog program operates continuously in the background monitoring the health of your PlantTriage system. If an operational failure is detected, a red icon appears at the top of every page and all PlantTriage Administrator users receive an email every 24 hours. For PlantTriage 11, two new checks have been added to the PlantTriage Watchdog.

  • PlantTriage Assesor is running out of CPU time.
  • An OPC Server is disconnected from PlantTriage.

Bulk Import Program Automatically Reads Loop Set Up Parameters From OPC Server

The bulk import program now uses ExperTune wizard technology so you can set up loops more quickly. ExperTune wizard technology is protected by patent. It's unique feature is that if a wizard is not available for your OPC Server, you can create your own. The wizard will query the OPC Server for loop parameters and create a wizard output file containing all loop parameters. It will also set up OPC item names for loop process values.

You then add a few extra parameters, such as Economic Significance, to the wizard output file. The wizard output file, containing all loop parameters, is then imported into PlantTriage in the normal way.

New Tool For Restoring PlantTriage Systems From Backup

Need to migrate to a new machine? The PlantTriage "Restore from Backup" has been made simpler and easier to use.

Non-Steady-State Tuning for Integrating Loops

Drag & Drop Tuning in Engineering Interface in the PID Loop Optimizer has an NSS feature for integrating loops. With the Non-Steady-State tuning, you can tune level controllers and other integrators, even when the process is unsteady. This is especially helpful because with integrating loops, it can be difficult to obtain a steady Process Variable value. When the Controller Output is at a fixed value, the Process Variable is usually drifting up or down at a steady rate.
