- Use the DeltaV OPC Server and connect via ExperTune's OPC PID Tuner. Using ExperTune's setup wizard.
- Or use OPC HDA to analyze data collected in your historian.
- Or use DDE: ExperTune's DDE PID Analyzer/Tuner
supports an easy connection to Fisher's DeltaV system (note: OPC is
preferred connection). To connect to DeltaV:
- Start \DeltaV\Fix32\Dmdde.exe.
- Use Dmdde|data for the application|topic name in ExperTune.
- Place an 'X' in Use Hot Links and Unique Write Locations. Enter
your Node:Tag.Field information in each of the fields for the
items.
- Any item that is titled as a send item, such as SP to send,
should use an A_ field instead of an F_ field. For example, an
SP item may be MyNode:ReactorTemp/pid1/sp.f_cv and the SP to
send item MyNode:ReactorTemp/pid1/sp.a_cv.

Connect using ExperTune's OPC connection
Wizard and the Honeywell OPC server included with Experion or
Plantscape. ExperTune's Honeywell wizard makes connecting to Experion or
Plantscape a snap. It supports remote OPC over your network. Simply enter in
the:
- Computer name (on the network where Experion resides). Click the 'B'
button to browse the network. If the server is in this computer, leave
the field blank.
- Enter the Control Module PID Block name for your loop.
And ExperTune will connect up!
Technical note: To write to SP, CO, and Mode, the mode attribute (listed
as 'MD Attr') has to be set to Program in Station on the PID faceplate.

Preferred connection method to Honeywell TDC systems:
- APP: If you have an Application Processing Platform (APP) then you can
connect to the TDC-3000 via OPC using "Honeywell
TPN Server". The APP Node comes with Honeywell TPN Server.
Although used by some, Honeywell does not recommend running TPN server
on a GUS.
- Via a historian. You can connect using OPC HDA.
Please ask us for a quotation for ExperTune PID Analyzer for use with your
Honeywell TDC system and we will include a 26 page white paper that describes
how to set up your TDC system for OPC or DDE communication. Call us at +1 (262)
369 7711.
Alternative connection methods to Honeywell TDC Systems:
- GUS: If you have a Global User Station (GUS) and "Honeywell DDE
Server" software: Use DDE to connect ExperTune
software to your controller. GUS does not support writing back to the
loop. Install and run ExperTune software either on the server or on a
remote machine.

There are several easy ways to connect ExperTune to Yokogawa Centum.
- ExperTune OPC communication option
combined with Yokogawa's OPC Server. This is the fastest
and the recommended way to connect to Centum.
- Or use OPC HDA to analyze data collected in your
historian.
- ExperTune DDE communication option combined with a Yokogawa's DDE
server. Communication with this method may not support hot links and
may be slow.
- ExperTune's Multi-channel trending and A/D Converter
to read voltage signals direct from I/O.

OPC or OLE for Process Control is a standard set by the OPC Foundation for fast and easy
connections to controllers. Use the OPC data built into ExperTune to connect
to any OPC server. ExperTune supports both OPC and OPC HDA (Advanced only)
connections. ExperTune Inc, is an OPC Foundation Member.

OPC or OLE for Process Control is a standard set by the OPC Foundation for fast and easy
connections to controllers. ExperTune embraces two standards established by
the OPC foundation:
- OPC DA or Data Access - for accessing data
real-time
- OPC HDA or Historical Data Access - accesses data on historians
With OPC HDA, you can use ExperTune's:
- Use ExperTune's PID Tuner to data mine, tune, and analyze data from the
past. (Requires ExperTune PID Tuner Advanced Option)
- PlantTriage now will monitor the performance of your plant directly from
the Historian data. By using the historian's data directly, PlantTriage
doesn't need to extract real time data directly from the control system.
This eliminates potential stress on the control system.
ExperTune PlantTriage's and PID Tuner use OPC HDA to make this possible.
Interfaces to these historians:
- OSI PI Historian
- AspenTech InfoPlus.21
- Honeywell PHD
- Invensys AIM*Historian
- Any historian supporting OPC HDA
HDA stands for Historical Data Access, a new standard from the OPC
Foundation. Many plants have a historian, like OSI's PI system. With OPC HDA
access, PlantTriage performs all of its assessments from data mined directly
from that historian.

The A/D Converter or
GES-200 is a complete data acquisition system. It reads voltage, current or
RTD signals, displayed real-time in Windows. It saves PV and CO data to disk
for tuning and analysis off-line. It includes:
- GES-200 box containing:
- Two input modules with 16 bit resolution and 1,500 V of
isolation. Each input is configured for your choice of: Voltage:
± 150mV, 500mV, 1V, 5V, 10V, 50V
- 4-channel backplane with RS-232 (or RS-485) interface to IBM PC
compatibles or laptops through the serial port.
- 50 ms anti-aliasing filter.
- RS-232 cable for connection of GES-200 to your IBM PC or
compatible.
- Two 6 ft signal cables with "mini-grabber"
clips for easy connection to plant I/O. Dual banana jacks
on the other end connect the GES-200.
- Plug-in power supply. Input: 120VAC. Output: +5V DC at
1.5A.
- Configuration software for input modules.
Thermocouple and RTD inputs available.
The GES-200 uses the serial port of your PC or laptop, there
is no board to install in the PC.
Input impedance of standard modules (6B12) is 1M ohm. The
input impedance of the thermocouple modules (6B11) is 100M ohms.
Each module includes a 50 ms anti-aliasing filter, resulting
in normal mode rejection of interference from frequencies 60Hz
and higher.
To use with thermocouples, simply connect the GES-200 input in
parallel with your thermocouple input on your controller
(assuming your controller input impedance is 20k ohms or more).
